The Scarlet Letter
This unabridged novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne is set in a Puritan American community. The protagonist, Hester Prynne, was outcast because she had an illegitimate child. After facing hipocrisy and moral dilemmas which are timeless, she bore her status with dignity and became a reference for other women.
